Data interconnection barometer

Data interconnection barometer

By publishing this barometer of data interconnection in France 2018, the Autorité de Régulation des Communications Electroniques et des Postes (Arcep) proposes to popularize the subject in order to better understand the state and developments of this market.

The first part of this report presents this ecosystem of the Internet: what is the purpose of data interconnection, who are the main actors, how are they interconnected, what are the issues and modes of interconnection, etc.

In the second part, the Arcep makes an inventory of the interconnection situation in France. The data collected are aggregated results for the period from the first half of 2012 to the first half of 2018. They thus make it possible to see the growth of incoming and outgoing traffic, the increase in installed capacity, the evolution of interconnection methods, the distribution of traffic by interconnection mode, the breakdown of traffic by origin and the range of current tariffs.

Rezopole is now "datadocked"

on Wednesday, 19 December 2018 Posted in Archives Rezopole, Archives GrenoblIX, Archives LyonIX

Rezopole is now

Datadock is a unique database on vocational training from a quality perspective. It allows vocational training funders to check the compliance of training organisations with the 6 quality criteria defined by the Law. After registration on Datadock, training organisations must submit evidence related to the 21 indicators defined by the funders to meet the 6 criteria.

By meeting the quality criteria, Rezopole has become "datadocked". This certification allows your OPCA to take charge of our training courses, in particular the BGP workshop.

Successful comeback for the RezoGirls!

Superb exchanges between the speakers and the audience for our round table dedicated to the positive and negative impacts of Digital on our daily lives. The evening was structured around:

  1. The digital revolution: two sides of the same coin.
  2. Occupational diseases linked to the digital boom.
  3. How can we respond to them? How to identify best practices to understand and better protect against these new occupational diseases?
  4. Debate with our speakers: Ludovic Bugand (project manager at Anact), Dimitri Meunier (lawyer specialising in telecoms law) and Oriane Piquer-Louis (President of the FDN Federation).

A big thank you to the participants for their dynamic interaction, tinged with good humour. All this with seriousness. Discover the best pictures by clicking here.

Internet traffic multiplied by 3 by 2022

on Tuesday, 04 December 2018 Posted in Archives Rezopole, Archives GrenoblIX, Archives LyonIX

Internet traffic multiplied by 3 by 2022

In the 2018 edition of its Visual Networking Index (VNI), Cisco announced that IP traffic is expected to triple in five years to 4.8 zettaocytes by 2022 (396 exabytes per month from 122 in 2017).

This growth is mainly due to two factors: the increase in the number of Internet users and the increase in the number of connected devices. According to Cisco, 4.8 billion people will use the Internet in 2022 compared to 3.4 billion in 2017. The number of fixed and mobile connections would increase to 28.5 billion within five years, half of which would concern Machine-to-Machine (M2M) and IoT.

According to the American network equipment manufacturer's forecasts, global Internet traffic generated by consumer uses will increase from 267 exabytes per month in 2017 to 333 exabytes in 2022. Business and government traffic is expected to double and represent 16% of total IP traffic.

The network preferred by users would be the fixed Internet with 273 exabytes per month at the end of 2022. Mobile IP traffic would follow with 77 exabytes but would be ahead of managed IP with 45 exabytes per month.

Internet video is also expected to grow strongly and represent 82% of global traffic in 2022, an increase of 7 points, all networks combined.

The adoption of SD-WAN in companies is also confirmed, with traffic increasing by 37% per year.

Digital Industry Observatory

on Tuesday, 20 November 2018 Posted in Archives Rezopole, Archives GrenoblIX, Archives LyonIX

Digital Industry Observatory

Produced by EY in partnership with the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, the 3rd edition of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Digital Industry Observatory was unveiled by the Digital League on 5th November last.

Representing nearly 65,000 jobs, digital technology is now a central pillar of the regional economy. Indeed, this industry created more than 3,000 jobs between 2016 and 2017, as many as the region's 4 main flagship industrial sectors combined (chemistry-rubber-plastic / metallurgy-metalworking / machinery and equipment manufacturing / agri-food).

This dynamic is confirmed at the national level as Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes consolidates its position as the second region in the digital sector with the creation of 8,150 jobs between 2013 and 2017. Internationally, despite a decline of two places compared to the period 2011-2015, Auvergne-Rhône-alpes ranks 20th among European regions that have attracted the most foreign investment in digital technology. It is one of only two French regions to be included in the TOP25.

Encouraging figures and resolutely confident players. Indeed, 81% of digital companies expect sales to increase by 2018, with the development of current services and products as the primary growth driver. However, the difficulty in recruiting the right profiles remains the first obstacle for regional actors, with an increase of 11 points compared to 2017.

In this 3rd edition of the Observatory, digital players also share their point of view on what they consider essential to make digital transformation a lever for growth and acceleration for all industries. For example, 75% of the companies surveyed believe that, long before the understanding of technological issues and the development of a digital culture, change management is the most important thing.

Fiber throughput multiplied by 100!

on Tuesday, 20 November 2018 Posted in Archives Rezopole, Archives GrenoblIX, Archives LyonIX

Fiber throughput multiplied by 100!

An important milestone has just been reached by the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology - RMIT University. By improving data transmission equipment, the University announces that it will be able to increase fibre optic speeds by a factor of 100.

RMIT University is interested in a particularity of light that is used to transport information in an optical fibre. Indeed, since light propagation can be carried out in a spiral movement (OAM for Orbital AngularMomentum), it is possible to multiplex several signals on the same fibre. This increases the total bandwidth.

In order to exploit the OAM, the University has developed a miniaturized component capable of decoding such signals. "Our miniature OAM nanoelectronic detector is designed to separate different OAM light states in a continuous order, in order to decode the information conveyed by twisted light," explains Dr. HaoranRen. Previously, this required a machine the size of a table, which is completely unrealistic for telecommunications. By using ultra-fine nanosheets measuring a fraction of a millimetre, our invention does this work better and fits perfectly into the tip of an optical fiber. »

A small size and low cost sensor that would adapt to existing fiber sizes. This would allow us to "exploit the full potential of twisted light for future optical and quantum communications," says Dr. Min Gu of RMIT University.
